This question was posed by Jason Labombard of Arizona in response to my post "HOW TO SPOT A LIE- VOLUME #2" wherein I said that exageration is a form of lying.
Can you think of any scripture that would back up this claim?
Is there any time in scripture where exageration is represented as a lie?

Ananias and Sapphira exaggerated and Peter called it a lie.
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”
They must have claimed what they brought was the entire price, or else Peter couldn't have accused them of that.
Exaggeration!
Thank you anonymous grammarian. I also thought of ananias and saphira, but I'm not sure if what they did is exaggeration. I don't think it is.
it wasn't...they straight up lied.
i have an idea about an exaggeration in the bible that is not counted as a lie...i'll have to find it and let you know.
How did they 'straight up' lie? They're not recorded as saying anything at all in the passage; they merely represented a certain amount of money as the entire sum they had received for their land, when in fact it was a percentage of that sum.
That is misrepresentation and deceitful exaggeration, and although I agree that they lied, I don't see how you can interpret it to NOT be a form of exaggeration.
There are cultural expressions of exaggeration throughout the Old Testament that are not treated as deceit, but I think that's because everyone involved knew what they were and what they meant. Exaggeration that is meant to purposefully deceive is clearly a lie.
Upon reflection, Ananias and Sapphira did 'straight up' lie to the Holy Spirit, which is what Peter claimed. But to the humans watching them, they lied by exaggeration.
