OR
ZOO ?

laundromat. you can check out not only his wardrobe, and the reading material he brought along, but you can pick up clues from his personality by watching to see if he dumps his freshly laundered clothing right back into a gross duffel bag, or maybe folds them a bit too meticulously.

i'm not crazy.

Maybe the laundromats I frequent are the cause of my immediate jump toward the zoo, even though I've been to the laundromat zillions of times and the zoo only twice since my wedding day.

The Depew laundromat and our current redneck-mat have no one who'd appeal to me...except for the bearded fellow who will be there after work today-- Dollar Wednesdays!-- to dump freshly laundered clothing into the baskets he offered to take with him this morning. (And sometimes he folds!) On second thought, definitely the laundromat...

I would have to say the laundromat, despite the fact that I have never used one. It's much easier to observe the behavior of someone when they're in such a casual environment, and stuck there for so long. I also agree with Lisa's comment about observing his choice in reading material; how he spends his free time is a significant indicator of what a man's about.

Zoo.

It's were Adam and Eve met. So the way I figure, it must be a good place to start.

The laundromat apparently tracks later after the first sacrifice.

Zoo.

The kind of place you can return to again and again. Show the kids the polar bear exhibit where you met Mom and the gorilla house where you bought her a pretzel.

I think laundromats are a bit creepy.

I will continue the gender division by backing the zoo. A laundromat seems too much like a bar to me; there are certain (although different) expectations attached to a meeting there. It's too pat, too obvious. The zoo represents the wide open world of chance, whimsy, and fate. "And to think I almost went to see Borat that afternoon..."

i will kill the gender division because i would pick the zoo. probably a good thing because just ask paul how many times he has been to a laundromat

I have to agree with Hal, Job, and Steve's arguments...and I, too, would choose the zoo. I've only been to a laundromat a few times - and they are very creepy and dirty, from my experiences anyway. Also, think of the animal lovers that would be at the zoo!

I would choose laundromat. You would have to stalk and shadow a person at the zoo (creepy) or drop them in their tracks with a magnificent "shock and awe" couple minutes of dialogue. I don't think I'm capable of that.

The laundromat is a place of routine and lots of down time. It would not be unusual to see someone lots of times at the laundromat, and over time build that into something you could hang a hat on.

I would need more than one approach at the runway and the zoo would not allow that. The laundromat would. Plus while the clothes are being laundered and dried there is plenty of time to play a board game, talk, or observe your person of interest without appearing stalkerish.

Definately laundromat.

job- the zoo's a place you can go again and again, but the laundromat's a one shot deal? that makes sense

steve- huh???

liana- the animal lover is excactly who i'm trying to avoid. the zoo is fun, and interesting, but if a guy is there because he hearts animals, and feels the need to commune with them on a regular basis...yeah, you can definitely find me washing clothes.

Ok...after reading arguments - I think Josh has it right on (yeh, I'm switching bandwagons)... because he's right in the fact that the zoo would likely be a 1-time meeting. I, too, don't think I have enough "Shock & awe" for a brief "bumping into" someone.
I just can't divorce my few experiences of the laundromat from my memories...where I wished my clothes would be clean & dry in 15 minutes! You should SEE some of the "doozy's" I've seen washing their clothes! When my husband & I were dating, I'd go WITH him to do his laundry, just so he didn't have to be creeped out by himself!
And Lisa, I guess you ARE right - someone who communes with animals TOO much would also be VERY creepy!

Alright now, people. Enough with the "creepy laundromats" bit. Having laundry hookups in only 2 of our last 5 homes (and the 2 homes being those in which we were housesitting--one for a year-long stint, but still housesitting) gives us no choice but the friendly neighborhood laundromat.

Dingy and germ-laden, yes; chilly in winter, undoubtedly; full of people with grubby shoes and greasy hair, you bet. (I'm one of 'em!) What more could one wish for in a romantic rendezvous, huh? Plus, I've scored half a dozen Martha Stewart Living magazines in the last few months.

You laundry snobs.

Laundry snobs indeed.

Lisa, right...but the laundromat is not the kind of place you would want to both go to after you're married.

Might make for a fun cheap date night tip from Focus on the Family...but would never translate into a realistic endeavor.
Laundromats are places for work.
A great literary device but not really an environment bursting with romantic potential.

And as long as we're in this spin cycle, when did you become so antagonistic in everything you say and do towards me?

Put some Fabric Softener in there, babe...

Yeah, I didn't know there was an objectively right answer to this question, and one trip to the zoo doesn't necessarily make someone into an animal-cuddling freak. Josh has a good argument, but since the question asks where *I* would prefer to meet *my* future spouse based on *my* experiences, I'll stick with the zoo, laundry snob or no.

lisa d said...

MAN, y'all are uptight.

For the sake of harmony, I shall compromise.

After the meet at the zoo we will necessarily be forced to seek the creepy environs of the laundromat because of our visit with the poop slinging monkeys.

Should make for big belly laughs years later when I tell the tykes how mommy and I first met.

barefootkangaroo said...

The correct answer is laundromat.

job, i didn't call you yesterday, because i was upset, i just wanted to hear your voiCE!

how about a zoo laundomat, where they wash the keepers uniforms? or a laundromat zoo, where they keep the machines from exotic lands behind bars?
i had an answer, but after i read everyone else's, i decided not to add mine.
by the way, i like this fun new series.

it's not so easy to meet a man. and if you REALLY want to get married, you have to go to the place a lot.
and i would be fine with going to the zoo everyday.
so i would meet some weird, animal-lovin' man at the zoo, and we would get married at the zoo, and then camp out near the lions and tigers on our honeymoon.

because i hate laundromat lighting.
